Lot Essay

"Landscape Portraits" is a series of photograms by Oppenheim, where she employs very thin slices of wood as negatives directly applied to a photosensitive surface. Through this technique, Oppenheim creates portraits of the internal landscapes of various wood species, such as Poplar, Teak, Birdseye Maple, and Cherry. The resulting patterns resemble Rorschach tests, psychedelic patterns, or otherworldly topologies.
