Camille Pissarro (1830-1903)
Autograph letter signed (‘C. Pissarro’) to Félix [Pissarro], Paris, 26 July 1897.
In French. 1½ pages, 215 x 137mm, bifolium. Provenance: Sotheby's, 15 & 16 November 1982, lot 591.

Satisfied with the effect of his paintings at the Luxembourg. The letter opens with financial matters in England, including one for his son Georges with ‘Dr MacNish’; meanwhile his son Lucien continues to receive electric shock treatment (probably for the three strokes he suffered that year). They visited the Luxembourg the previous day, where ‘nos tableaux font très bon effet’. The atrocious heat in Paris is delaying his return to Éragny where he can ‘respirer un peu d’air’.
