This work is clean and lightly varnished. The artist left numerous areas of the board unpainted throughout the composition. The unpainted areas read very strongly under ultraviolet light. There do not appear to be any retouches that correspond to this dark fluorescence. It is more than likely that the work is unretouched, and the original unpainted panel simply reads strongly under ultraviolet light. It is possible that there is slight blanching in the background beneath the bicep on the right side, extending down towards the signature.
