This painting could be hung in its current state. The very smooth surface has developed cracking, particularly along the bottom edge, through the figure, and in one area in the center of the sky. It is doubtful that the cracking can be relaxed. The artist himself appears to have scraped or in some way affected losses in the sky to reveal the ochre undercolor. Although these look like paint losses, they do appear to be covered in an original varnish, suggesting that they are intentional by the artist. There are a few tiny spots of retouching in the lower sky in the center right, and one tiny dot near the top of the field in the upper left corner. Apart from dusting the work very slightly, it is recommended that the work be hung as is. It should be noted that the signature in the lower left is written on top of the varnish layer, but is thought to be original.
