Lot Essay

After Thomas Cole's death in 1848, his home became a site of pilgrimage for admirers such as Frederic Church and Jasper Francis Cropsey. The present work is part of a series of drawings completed onsite in 1853.

We would like to thank Dr. Kenneth W. Maddox of the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, for his assistance with cataloguing this work.
