The artwork is an oil painting which has been executed on a finely woven linen canvas with its tacking edges intact and stretched onto a four-member stretcher. The canvas substrate is age appropriately oxidized but in good and stable condition as are the oil based ground and media layers. Ultraviolet examination reveals a fluorescence of small and careful in-painting throughout the background covering pinpoint abrasions and several scattered, minor losses. Upon visual inspection, the artwork appears to have a noticeable amount of embedded dirt below a synthetic resin varnish layer. The painting is signed at the bottom center in green: "SS Stilwell". The painting is in stable condition overall.
