This report was prepared by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This work has been lined quite heavily with wax. The surface is stable. The paint layer has not shrunk or become distorted from Inness’ very medium based pigment of this period. There is one area of retouching between the tree trunks on the right side, and a few spots in the lower part of the picture. There are no other retouches visible under ultraviolet light, but there may be some around the edges, particularly on the right edge and upper left edge. The work looks well and should be hung as is.
The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair, and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
