Lot Essay

Wilson Henry Irvine studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and initially established himself as a newspaper illustrator and commercial artist at the Chicago Portrait Company. He visited the artist colony at Old Lyme as early as 1914, before settling in Connecticut in 1918. Known for his lyrical Impressionist scenes, such as the present work, Irvine’s paintings can be found in numerous museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois.
