Lot Essay

This model, and its many variants, feature in the catalogue of Coade etchings, of circa 1785, as No. 105. They have been used diversely, from adorning gateways (Audley End) to memorials (Admiral Bligh) and also as garden ornaments. A pair of this design was sold Christie's, London, 23 May 2007, lot 62 (£28,800).
