The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
The first, celadon green, with scattered areas of soiling and discoloration, a few water marks. Areas of considerable rubbing to the silk ground and a few small holes scattered about; the hem is becoming undone on two sides. There's some natural rubbing to the creases as to be expected with age. 583⁄8 in. (148.3 cm.) wide, 751⁄2 in. (191.8 cm.) long.
The second, persimmon, similarly there are scattered areas of light staining and fading to the persimmon ground. One edge with 11⁄4 in. tear and consequential fraying to the silk, and some scattered smaller tears and holes to the panels, the hem is becoming undone on two sides. Scattered areas of rubbing and abrasions to the silk. There's some natural rubbing to the creases as to be expected with age. 55 in. (139.7 cm.) wide, 651⁄2 in. (166.4 cm.) long
Christie’s strongly suggests viewing this lot in person. You may wish to contact a professional textile conservator with any additional questions as we are unable to provide in-depth condition analysis.
