Lot Essay

Silver Studio, founded by Arthur Silver (1853-1896) in 1880, was a prolific and influential textile design studio well into the 20th century. Its pieces helped to popularize the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau styles, with designs retailing throughout England and into Continental Europe. Upon Arthur's death in 1896, his son Reginald (Rex) Silver (1879-1965) ran the design firm until 1962.
