Lot Essay

One can see a similarity between the design of this lot and the designs by James Leman (1688-1745). The textile designer and manufacturer played a prominent role in the English industry, based in Spitalfields. See the collection at Victoria & Albert for examples of Leman's 'Bizarre' patterns.
