Lot Essay

The present lot is an example of Imperial cloisonné enamel seal incense boxes, forming part of a three-piece set comprising a tripod censer, a vase, and a box and cover.
Compare related cloisonné enamel boxes and covers, bearing Qianlong marks with an additional character and of the period, in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Enamels, Cloisonné in the Qing Dynasty, Vol. 2 (Beijing, 2011), pp. 312–313 and 315, nos. 247–250 and 253. A miniature cloisonne enamel box and cover with incised four-character Qianlong mark and an additional character sold at Christie's New York, 23-24 September 2021, lot 930.
