We have sought to record changes in the condition of these pieces acquired safter their intial period of manufacture.
Both have scratches and surface wear in keeping with their age.
The larger jar:
- There are firing lines and areas of kiln crawl to the interior of the base, iron spots and pitting that has slightly discoloured, mainly visible on the exterior of the base.
- There is rubbing to the gilt of the handles and a tiny nick to the extremity of one handle.
The cover of the larger jar:
- There are two apertures to the head of the Buddhist lion finial
- There is a restored chip with associated overpainting to the rim measuring approx. 4 cm. x 0.5 cm.
- There is rubbing and losses to the golding of the cover finial.
The smaller jar:
- The biscuit handles are not gilded and there are tiny nicks to the extremities.
- There is a firing split to the underside of the base measuring 4.3 cm and a firing line.
- There are kiln flaws including some pitting, iron spots and firing lines, mainly to the base, the interior and handles.
The cover of the smaller jar:
- There are two apertures to the head of the biscuit Buddhist lion finial.
- There are some tiny nicks to the finial extremities amd kiln firing cracks to the biscuit finial which is not gilded.
- The eyes of the Buddhist lion are missing.
