The group comprises: a seated figure of Budai, his robes open at the chest to reveal his portly figure, his slipper resting on the hem of his robe next to a vase; an incense stick holder modelled as the figure of the smiling, corpulent Budai, holding a cloth sack in his left hand; an incense stick holder modelled as a robed man with his arm around a smaller bearded figure; and three rectangular seals surmounted by Buddhist lions, two with carved seal faces.

The smaller figure of Budai: 2¾ in (7 cm.) high
The figurative incense stick holder: 3 in. (7.8 cm.) high
The largest seal: 1⅜ in. (3.5 cm.) high
The two smaller seals: each 1¼ in. (3 cm.) high

Budai is a Buddhist monk and is usually depicted, laughing or smiling and with a corpulent figure. He is often depicted with his cloth sack which represents abundance, prosperity and contentment. He was a popular subject for the Dehua kiln potters and is often referred to as the "laughing Buddha".
