The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We have sought to record the changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.
Tallest:
Cover:
- the tail of the mythical beast on the cover is chipped off
- a small shallow chip, a few nicks and tiny bruises to the mouth rim
- a few fine fissures to the flange
Vase:
- minor polishing to the mouth rim on one narrow end, and a few nicks and tiny bruises to the mouth rim
-a chip to one ear of the animal mask handle and a small chip to one ear of the other animal mask handle’s ear
- a small natural flaw and a few minute nicks to the foot rim
Widest:
Cover:- a fine and short fissure or possibly crack to one upright of the finial
- two small shallow chips and a few nicks to the mouth rim
vase: a tiny shallow chip and a few nicks to the mouth rim
- a few other nicks to the edges and extremities
- two tiny gauge marks or flaws to the body near one handle
Smallest:
cover: - a few tiny bruises to the mouth rims
- the ring chain handle which would have been connected with the vase is loose
vase: - a polished flaw to the mouth rim
Double peach:
- two small shallow chips and a minor flaw to the edge of one leaf
- some natural fissures and mottling inherent in the material
