The painted surface has been cleaned in the past.
The paint layer appears to be secure and stable and shows a very fine pattern of ageing craquelures in the sky.
Examination under UV light shows very few spots of cosmetic retoucing, one possible filled in damage to the canvas in the sky. Minor other defects to the canvas along the outer edges.Overall the painting presents well in a period style gilt frame.
