The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Structural condition
The canvas has been lined and this is ensuring a sound and secure support and no further
structural intervention is required.
Paint surface
The paint surface has a reasonably even varnish layer. There are some very small spots of
abrasion in the upper left, within the darker pigments of the clouds. There are also some
slightly discoloured retouchings, in the paler pigments of the clouds in the upper right corner,
which are visible in a strong natural light.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows only small retouchings, including a diagonal line in the
sky which is approximately 5 cm in length and a few other very small spots of inpainting in the
sky and retouchings around the framing edges. The small area of discoloured retouching in
the upper right corner, mentioned above, does not fluoresce clearly and there may well be
further retouchings beneath the varnish layers that do not fluoresce under ultraviolet light.
Summary
The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition and would benefit
from revarnishing to address the small areas of surface abrasions.
