A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas. The canvas has been lined. The painted surface is covered in surface dirt and a discoloured yellowed varnish. The paint layer appears to be secure and stable showing a pattern of ageing craquelures throughout the sky. There are a few spots of discoloured old restoration visible in the sky and in the background. Examination under UV light shows inpaint, wash and cosmetic retouching throughout the sky and one area of inpaint at the foot of the castle in the lower centre. Overall the painting presents well in a period style gilt frame.
