First English edition, presentation copy in fine condition, inscribed by Beckett on the title-page: ‘For William Targ very cordially Samuel Beckett.’ Federman & Fletcher 376.1. Octavo. Original orange cloth; dust-jacket (old tape reinforcement to head and tail of spine panel, flaps with faint browning to extremities at head and fore-edge, faint wear to extremities); quarter morocco folding case with onlaid cloth panel based on dust-jacket design. Provenance: authorial presentation inscription on title, to: – William Targ (1907-1999; American book editor who published Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather while editor-in-chief of G. P. Putnam's Sons) – Donald G. Drapkin (bookplate loosely inserted; sold Christie’s New York 29 June 2005, lot 20).

Authorial presentation copy of the first English edition. Federman & Fletcher 385.101. Octavo. Number 6 of 100 copies on handmade paper signed by the author on the limitation on verso of title. Original grey cloth, upper cover lettered in gilt within frame; contained within grey cloth slipcase and housed in black cloth box. Provenance: authorial presentation inscription on title dated February 1967 to: – Barbara Bray (1924-2010, literary critic and translator, with a close personal and professional relationship with Beckett) – Sotheby’s 13 July 2006, lot 174).
