JAZZ IN GERMANY

An album of approximately 90 candid unpublished photographs of American jazz stars on stage in Germany, 1959-61, many of the pages signed, including: the front pastedown signed by Count Basie and his Orchestra; Gerry Mulligan, signed below a fantastic shot of him taking a photograph; large studio portrait of Benny Goodman, signed; one album leaf signed by members of the Ellingon, Goodman and Basie bands; a sequence of images of Benny Goodman’s band, accompanied by the signatures of Zoot Sims, Gene Allen and Jimmy Rushing; Duke Ellington’s orchestra, a similar sequence of shots, prefaced by a tissue-guard signed by Ellington and members of his band; Dizzy Gillespie and Leo Wright sign above and below their concert photograph; a run of images of the MJQ begins with all four members signing next to their candid performance portraits; and John Coltrane and his band sign on the tissue-guard before several shots from the 1961 JATP European tour.
