Presentation copy of the first UK edition in an excellent dust-jacket, inscribed by the author in the month of publication to her secretary, amanuensis and close friend Charlotte 'Carlo' Fisher: 'Carlo from Agatha Nov. 1948'. This work had been published eight months previously in the U.S. with the title There is a Tide. Hubin p. 80.

Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered in black (spine and edges of covers sunned, top edges of boards sunned and spotted, edges a little spotted); original dust-jacket supplied from another copy (slightly chipped, short clean tears and creases at foot of spine, lower panel somewhat marked). Provenance: Charlotte 'Carlo' Fisher (1895-1976, secretary, amanuensis and close friend of Agatha Christie; presentation inscription by the author on front free endpaper, and with Fisher’s posthumous book label).
