This lot is closely related to cut glass and ormolu candlesticks and candelabra produced at the Imperial Glass Factory in st. Petersburg and in Moscow throughout the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Comparable Russian candlesticks and candelabra incorporating cut glass and gilt bronze are illustrated Arcadi Gaydamak, Russian Empire, Moscow and Paris, 2000, p. 95 and Igor Sychev, Russian Bronze, Moscow, 2003, p. 124, respectively. Finely facetted glassware from the Imperial Glass Factory was unrivalled in quality during the early nineteenth century and was known as 'Russian Stone' for its mirror-like polish and rainbow color when lit. Specializing in unique objects to decorate palace interiors, the Imperial Glass Factory was the eminent producer of glass at the epicenter of production in St. Petersburg.
