We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.
First:
-There are a few frits and pinprick holes.
-There are a few minor firing cracks, particularly to the reticulated decoration.
-There is a shallow chip to one vertical edge.
-There are a few nicks to the edges of the base.
-"391" and "24.380" have been inscribed on the base.
Second:
-There are some nicks to the edges.
-There is a vertical hairline extending from the base to the side.
-There is a curved glaze line extending from the base to the side.
-The base is probably later attached.
-"163" and "24.378" have been inscribed on the base.
Third:
-There is a short firing crack to the mouth rim.
-There is loss to the brocade ball reticulated details.
-There are a few glaze lines.
-There are a few nicks to the foot rim.
-"254", "25.1485" and "1488" have been inscribed on the base.
Fourth:
Cover:
-There are losses to the glaze, particularly to the relief decoration and edges.
-There is a chip to the upper lip of the Buddhist lion.
-"25.1019B" has been inscribed on the interior.
Box:
-There are a few nicks to the mouth rim with some minor associated losses of glaze.
-There are a few nicks to the foot rim.
-"209" and "25.1019" have been inscribed on the base.
Fifth:
-There is some wear to the mouth rim.
-There are some losses to the glaze, particularly to the relief decoration.
-There is residue of old glue to the foot rim.
