The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been relined with a wax lining. Frame abrasion along the extreme edges. Scattered surface soiling. There is a network of fine unobtrusive craquelure throughout. Vertical and horizontal stretcher bar marks. Scattered short strokes of inpainting throughout, most notable to the sky, right edge, and upper right corner. A repaired tear just above the ship's prow (approx. 3 in. long) and two repaired small punctures below and above. A vertical repaired tear extending from the front of the ship into the water (approx. 4 in. long). Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
