Lot Essay

Russell Ltd. of Liverpool was started by Thomas Russell in the mid-19th century. It was taken over by Russell's two sons and enjoyed the honor of making watches by appointment for Queen Victoria. The movements of these watches are signed, "Makers to the Queen." The presently offered watch was made following 1901, the year of Queen Victoria's passing, and is thus signed, "Makers to the late Queen."
