Lot Essay
The Datejust is one of the most iconic Rolex watch models. The presently offered ref. 1601 may look just like any other Datejust from afar, but it has a subtle variation that vaults it into rarified air. The majority of Datejust models are stainless steel or yellow gold. This 18k white gold example is one of a very few to be offered at auction and is extremely rare. Only a trained eye would be able to see the difference between white gold and stainless steel. The one notable difference is that the watch does not have drilled lugs, while the stainless steel versions do. Someone looking to add a classic model to their collection with a rare variation should not let this opportunity pass.

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The case has scratches throughout. The case back has a large scratch that runs across it. The back of the lugs show evidence of the strap being removed. The bottom left and top right lugs have a dent to their feet. The top left lug has a nick. The dial has a small scratch between 7 and 8 o'clock. The minute track has paint loss between the 58 and 60 markers. The hands appear to be replacements. All of the lume plots appear to be intact, however the 3 o'clock plot shows signs of deterioration. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
