The work is structurally sound and all elements are present. A light layer of surface dust and soiling is present. Fine cracks to the leather and small spots of oxidation to the metal elements are intermittently to the case, and the top of the case has detached. Wear, surface abrasions, soft scuffs, tiny nicks, and spots of discoloration are to the chess board and chess pieces, in keeping with the artist's intended use of the object and the natural aging process of the media. There is no apparent inpainting visible under ultraviolet light.
