Lot Essay

These two plates come from a series of ornithological plates made by the Kornilov Porcelain Factory for the American market. A platter with an identical border painted to the center with a large red hawk and five small sparrows is in the collection of the Hillwood Museum, Washington D.C. (Cat. No. 25.561).
