拍品專文

This form of ewer with decoration inspired by the famed 16th century Italian goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini was extremely popular in the Victorian period. Occasionally made with matching goblets, these ewers were produced by a number of silversmiths, including Hunt & Roskell, Elkington, and George Fox. An example without a cover by Hunt & Roskell dated 1868 was sold from the Collection of Dr. Peter D. Sommer, Christie's, London, 4 December 2014, lot 224. A further parcel gilt example with matching goblet by Daniel and Charles Houle dated 1871 was sold at Christie's, New York, 6 June 2013, lot 37.
