Lot Essay

The restrained, clean lines of this table may show the influence of 18th century Chinese furniture on mid-Georgian mahogany furniture. Chinese furniture is known for sleek design, focussed on nuanced lines, elegant proportions and understated volume, as seen in multiple lots of Chinese furniture sold at Christie’s 12 May 2026 as part of ‘The Flacks Family Collection II: Curtain Call’ such as ‘a Huanghuali Flush-Corner Stool’ (lot 22) and ‘a Walnut Side Table’ (lot 3) both of which demonstrate similar sleek lines and smooth joinery.
A very similar serving-table was sold anonymously, Christie’s, London, 6 April 2000, lot 60 (£44,650).
