Lot Essay

Francis Lascelles was the daughter of Edward Lascelles, 1st Earl of Harewood, she married John Douglas, son of James Douglas, 16th Earl of Morton. Cotes executed another portrait of the sitter which was included in the sale of his personal effects after his death conducted by Langford and Son, London 23 February 1771, lot 23, see Mead Johnson, op.cit., p. 158.
