The design for these candelabra was conceived by the French modeller Pierre-Emile Jeannest (1813-1857), who worked for Elkington, and whose pieces were successfully presented at the London 1851 Great Exhibition. Jeannest was the son of a Paris sculptor who trained under Delaroche. His designs were found to be highly suggestive as described in the Art-Union of 1848. He designed the 1854 Warwick Races cup, a sculptural model of a meeting between of Queen Henrietta Maria (1609-1669) and Prince Rupert of the Rhine (1619-1682), the great Civil War military commander and nephew of King Charles I, near Stratford-upon-Avon in 1643, which was sold at Christie's, London, 18 April 2023, lot 167.
