The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
They have been regilt at some time and the gilding is in reasonable condition with the expected chips, wear and loss as well as a little cracking, mainly to the joints. There are traces of the underlying red bole showing through by design.
The seats have been later sprung and the current covering is in good overall condition with minimal marking and wear from use.
There are traces of apparently inactive woodworm to some of the rails, this is particularly notable to one back rail, which has been applied with a further rail to the inside to which the webbing for the springing has been attached.
To the same chair there is some minor loss and repair to the joint between the right-hand arm upright and the top of the leg, leaving the joint visible and there is a plugged hole to the joint with the rear upright where the joint has been strengthened.
Later corner blocks to the underside throughout. Slight variations to the finials.
A small section of moulding missing to the top of a rear leg to one chair. Overall minor marks, scratches, knocks and wear consistent with age and use.
These chairs are generally sound and in usable condition.
