Recorded in a contemporary document of 29 June 1786 as ‘Ruin’d Vase 15/-, Single Column 31/-, Double Column 42/-, Triple 63/-‘ these vases reflect the contemporary fashion for Classical Antiquity following excavations at Herculaneum and Pompeii. Included as Shape no. 1566 in the first Ornamental Ware Shape Book, Robin Reilly illustrates two double ruined column vases, formerly in the Kadison Collection, see Wedgwood, Vol. I, London, 1989, C.183.
