The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau est exécuté sur un panneau de chêne, composé de trois planches jointes horizontalement. Les jointures des planches étaient auparavant soutenues par un certain nombre de renforts, mais ceux-ci ont été enlevés. Une zone de 7 cm de hauteur a été éclaircie sur les bords supérieur et inférieur du panneau. Le support reste stable.
La peinture présente bien, le modelé sculptural de la composition originale étant bien préservé.
À la lumière naturelle, on peut voir des retouches sur toute la longueur des jointures du panneau, ainsi que d'autres lignes verticales de retouches associées à des fissures verticales dans le panneau à gauche de la tête du personnage. Les noirs du costume et les gris de l'arrière-plan en faux marbre présentent des traces d'amincissement. Il semble y avoir quelques retouches mineures dans les tons chair.
L'examen sous lumière UV confirme les observations ci-dessus. Il y a d'autres retouches éparses dans les noirs du costume du modèle et dans la collerette. Il y a une zone de retouche sur le sourcil droit du modèle. La peinture reste stable.

The painting is executed on an oak panel, made up of three horizontally joined boards. The board joints were previously supported by a number of cleats, but these have been removed. An area measuring 7 cm in height has been thinned to the upper and lower edges of the panel. The support remains stable.
The painting presents well, with the sculptural modeling of the original composition well preserved.
In natural light, retouching can be seen along the length of the panel joins, with some further vertical lines of retouching associated with vertical hairline cracks in the panel to the left of the sitter's head. There is evidence of some thinning in the blacks of the costume and the greys of the faux-marble background. There appears to be some minor retouching to the flesh tones.
Examination under UV light confirms the above observations. There is some further scattered retouching in the blacks of the sitter's costume and in the ruff. There is an area of retouching on the sitter's right eyebrow. The paint remains stable.
In an 18th century carved giltwood frame (approx. 94,5 x 81,5 x 4,5 cm).
