The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

La toile a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage, elle est maintenue sous tension et reste stable. La matière a été quelque peu amincie à la suite du processus de rentoilage, ce qui permet de percevoir la préparation à certains endroits. Les bords gauche et droit de l'œuvre portent d'anciennes marques de châssis, ce qui implique que la toile a été adaptée du format rectangulaire d'origine à l'ovale d'aujourd'hui.
À la lumière naturelle, quelques retouches sont visibles dans l'arrière-plan et dans les tons chair. Un fin réseau de craquelures est visible sur la surface de la peinture.
L'examen sous lumière UV confirme ce qui précède et révèle d'autres retouches au niveau de l'épaule et de la manche droite du modèle.

The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. There has been some thinning to the paint layers as a result of the relining process, allowing the preparation to be perceived in certain areas. There is evidence of old stretcher bar marks the the left and right edge, that imply that the canvas has been adapted from an original rectangular format to the present oval.
In natural light some retouching can be seen in the background and in the flesh tones. There is a fine network of craquelure that can be seen over the paint surface.
Examination under UV light confirms the above and reveals some further retouching in the sitter's shoulder and right sleeve.
