This wonderfully inventive Irish chandelier-mirror is the only one of its type known to exist. Typically, such mirrors utilize a branch from which a small chandelier hangs in front of the mirror plate. In this example, the central stem is halved, and attached to the vertical frame support. Therefore, the reflection makes the five-branch half chandelier appear as though it is a full ten-light chandelier in the round. The mirror actually consists of three separate plates, with the horizontal divider necessary to distribute the weight of the chandelier branches (see: R. Kern, Hotspur: Eighty Years of Antiques Dealing, London, 2004).
