The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The celestial and terrestrial globes are in very good conserved condition. They present very well and are ready to use. Each with typical minor scuffing to rebates where brass meridian rings slot into the horizon rings on stand. Both with rubbing, areas with minor discoloration, and signs of old repairs in places as is to be expected. The terrestrial globe has an old repaired split to the side of the horizon ring on the stand. The Celestial globe stand has a yellow chalk inscription to the underside which reads '7374'. The finial on the celestial globe stand is a later replacement. Glass to compasses has possibly been replaced.
Please note the stands are made of Indian Rosewood and will require a CITES export permit if they are to be exported outside of the United States. Please notify the department upon successful purchase if this applies to you, and we can provide you with the necessary paperwork or apply on your behalf if you ship through Christie's. These globes were bought by the present consignors at auction in New York in 2002, and have remained in the US ever since, so there will be no issue receiving the export permit if needed.
