Tapering cylindrical, the body chased and engraved with trellis centered by flowerheads and with scrolling foliate lower rim, the upper rim with further scrolls and acanthus extending to form handles, the cover chased with rocaille and with conforming scroll finial, with associated silver-gilt liner, the stand similarly decorated with trellis, with acanthus, shell, and rocaille border and supports, later engraved on the underside of the cooler and center of the stand with script monogram AAR, marked throughout, the liner mark of Howard & Co., New York, 1886
