Lot Essay

François-Honoré-Georges Jacob, dit Jacob-Desmalter (1770-1841), collaborated with his father, the celebrated Georges Jacob (1739-1814), between 1803 and 1814, using the stamp Jacob D. Rue Meslée, and managed the workshop until 1825, when he passed leadership onto his eldest son Alphonse-Georges. This present pair bears the signature hallmarks of the firm, namely the neoclassical styling and the use of paw feet. A comparable gueridon is currently housed in the Carnegie Museum of Art, Oakland (acc. no. 75.29.2).
