Details
The spot hammered gold casing decorated with a stylised flower inset with three cabochon sapphires and rose-cut diamonds, the other side engraved with a date '1904' and applied with a crowned monogram of Emperor Nicholas II, containing two steel blades, a nail file, scissors, and a button hook, with a rose gold suspension loop applied with two cabochon rubies, marked on body with 'Fabergé' in Cyrillic and workmaster's initials

Lot Essay

This rare gold pen knife was most likely a personal item of Emperor Nicholas II as it bears his monogram beneath the imperial crown. The pen knife is dated '1904', which was an important year in the life of Nicholas II and his wife Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Their long-awaited son Tsesarevich Alexei was born on 12 August 1904.
