Wilhelm James Bolin (1861-1934), was the son of Henrik Conrad Bolin (1818-1888) who had founded the family's Moscow branch - 'Shanks & Bolin' in 1852. Whilst Wilhelm's cousins operated the St Petersburg branch 'C.E. Bolin', he took over his father's business in Moscow. In 1912 he changed the name of the shop after his own - 'W.A. Bolin' - after which the stamp 'W.A. Bolin', as seen on this clock, came into use. Wilhelm Bolin was awarded the title of the supplier to the Imperial Russian Court on 25 December 1912.
