Lot Essay

Henriette Faraguet was a painter, active at the Sèvres factory from 1857 to 1879. A nearly identical pair of vases also painted by Faraguet are in the collection of Fontainebleau. See, Bernard Chevallier, Les Sèvres de Fontainbleu, Paris, 1996, p.151, no. 120. See the Art Journal Illustrated Catalogue of the International Exhibition 1862, p. 211 and p. 248 for engravings of vases of the same form, similarly mounted. A pair of the same form with closely related decoration were presented by the Imperial household in 1860 to Mlle. Couts (sic.), Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts (1814-1906) and subsequently sold after sale, Christie's, New York, 21 October 2008, lot 99.
