The canvas is lined. There is minor surface dirt. Examination under UV reveals an irregular varnish layer. There are restorations to the edges to address frame abrasion. There is additional restoration in the background to the left of the figure's broom handle and to the left of her hips. There are touches of restoration to her skirt and the cloth draped over her arm. The lower edge of the hand holding the letter has been reinforced, and there are a few touches in her bonnet as well. There is some restoration in the face to the darker areas. The area defining the proper left edge of her bodice, the top of the desk, and the near forearm of her resting arm has received strengthening as well, along with the edges of this hand and the letter and envelope. There are three areas of retouching in the background on the right side as well.
