The form and ornament of this table with the dished top and spiked foliate scrolls on the legs typifies Irish furniture of the mid-18th century. The pounced ground offsets the fluid carving with shell and flower motifs. The squared carved paw feet seen here are also a frequent feature and can be compared with another example in the McDonnell Room at Malahide Castle, Co. Dublin (G. Kenyon, The Irish Furniture at Malahide Castle, 1994, pp. 90-91). Further related examples are illustrated in Glin and J. Peill, Irish Furniture, New Haven, 2007, p. 239 figs. 145-7.

In good conserved condition with typical scattered marks, polished in nicks, dents, surface scratches, tiny losses and repairs throughout consistent with age and use. A few places with infill and restorations, particularly to carved extremities along the frieze and to corners of tray top. Top also with two small old and well-disguised polished in patch repairs and a few minor stains and places with infill. Some old repairs to corners where frieze meets legs. Scuffing to feet. Minor dirt accumulation in crevices. Overall structurally sound and ready to use.
