The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This very elegant desk is in good overall condition, despite the inevitable dents, marks, scratches and shrinkage cracks due to age and use. As stated in the catalogue, it was originally a piano forte. The mahogany is of good quality, the veneer thick, the top mahogany plywood. Removable brackets block the unscrewing of the legs. The threaded rods on the legs are 18th century, as are the handles. The roses are 18th century but associated. The shoes are not 18th century but late 19th or early 20th century. The rings: made in two parts, and present on one of these parts the same markings as the hooves. The cord moulding is later. The leather was Leather at the beginning of the 20th century
