Lot Essay

A pair of similar flasks, also chased with figures, slightly larger than those on the present lot, was part of an extensive dressing table service sold from the collection of the Earl of Home at Christie's, London, 17 June 1919, lot 56. Similarly unmarked it was exhibited at the South Kensington Museum in 1862. These flasks, with their pierced inner grills would have formed part of a similar dressing table service and may have been used as scent flasks or for hair powder.
