The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
As stated in the cataloguing, this set of dining-chairs has a number of repairs and restorations throughout and they are in generally poor to moderate condition.
Each splat has a number of repairs to the carving and joints. There are also repairs and replacements to the legs in most instances. The seats would also need re-padding and upholstering in order to be fit for purpose with the rails in some instances needing repairs and restorations.
Some chairs have detached elements, for example one of the carvers has an arm that has become detached and which would need fixing into place.
Fourteen chairs are upholstered in dark green leather, which is very worn and one chair has a large tear towards the back of the seat. The remaining nine chairs from the set are upholstered in burgundy fabric which is faded and rather dusty.
Although Christie's are not restorers, we would be able to advise on recommended restorers in order to bring this attractive set of dining-chairs back to their full potential.
