The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The George II armchair: overall a lovely chair, sturdy and structurally sound, and with typical scattered chips, cracking, and small losses to gilt surfaces revealing gesso, bole and bare wood in areas as to be expected with age. Some small losses and chips to carved extremities. There is a 2 in. by 1 in. loss to the proper left eye on the proper right front dolphin foot, visible in catalogue images. An old screw repair to reinforce old break to lower section of inscrolled hand-rest on proper left arm. Some shrinkage to joints. An old repaired break to lower section of the apron. The upholstery with wear and rubbing, losses to velvet particularly in high touch areas.
The circa 1900 armchair: structurally sound and ready to use. With scattered very minor chips and losses to the gilding commensurate with age and use. Old repair to proper right back foot.
